Writing Rules

I’ve always loved to write - for as long as I can remember I’ve been writing, mostly creatively, but all kinds of writing.  My parents noticed it very early on and quickly gifted me a pink and white journal with little roses and teddy bears after I turned eight years old. Back then, my first entries were written in pencil with large print and inconsistent spacing, but I wrote stories about what I observed both in my neighborhood and at school; playing chase, riding bikes, and who was picking on whom.  It all felt extremely important.

I would later discover a type-writer my mother owned and I would write fake newspaper articles about animals, dolls, and dozens of pretend adventures.  Its clear I’ve always loved the idea of fantasy, creating a magical world, uniquely mine all the time.

And since that 8th year on the planet I’ve maintained a journal, filling the pages of 23 blank lined books to date.  Each time I finish one I am filled with exhilaration knowing it’s time to go shop and pick out a new one. A thrill may actually be an understatement.  I love the fresh pages, pushing the front cover all the way open for the first time, picking out the perfect writing tool (ideally a fine point pen - more on that later) and starting the first entry.  I worked hard to always make the first printed words count and if ever lost and then found, I usually make the return reward a “name your price” option to the finder. Clearly, these books have been priceless to me.

Over all the years of writing I’ve never proclaimed to be the best at it or had a goal to be a Nobel prize winner, but its never been a focus of mine.  My heart tells me writing and telling stories is is what matters and to escape with my characters and imagine the possibilities, nourishing me... romanticizing me.

I’ve set my sights on continuing to dream and share my inner visions with the community around me, hoping to inspire and empower those who also have a song inside. To keep listening to it and see it through.  Tell it. And ideally, live it and then tell it again.  There are so many stories.  Keep telling them and along with me.
